Transitional Spring Pieces

Spring can be a tricky time of year when it comes to getting dressed. The mornings (especially early in the season) can be chilly, but by midday you’re warm enough to go on a walk during lunch without a jacket. We’ve had some warmer temps the last couple of weeks here in Connecticut, and I’ve been more excited to get dressed than I’ve been in months! I think my excitement to get dressed can be credited to my collection of transitional pieces that I’ve gathered over the last couple of years.

I 100% have a spring uniform and on any given day it looks similar to the outfit I’m sharing below — a light blouse, a pair of jeans, a good heel and a jacket. Essentially, this outfit is a combination of transitional pieces that can be recreated in so many different ways. Bonus, each one of these pieces can be worn solo (or together) throughout other seasons as well.

This blouse (currently 40% off) is one of my favorite purchases. I picked mine up last year, but it’s still available at J.Crew and comes in so many colors. I bought another one in black right before my trip to China. It’s the best basic and I love that it has a slightly more polished look than just a regular white or black tee. It’s also great because it can pretty much be worn year-round depending on how you layer it.

One thing to note, this blouse is definitely drapey. If you want a smaller fit I suggest ordering a size smaller. If you want an oversized look I would order your normal size.

You can’t go wrong with jeans and a heel for spring. In my opinion it’s still slightly too cold for sandals, so I opt for a heel. I love these slingbacks (last year from Banana Republic, similar here, here and here) because they are partially open and can be worn both spring and fall.

My jeans (also on sale) are also from J.Crew, but you really can’t go wrong with any pair of denim. There are tons of sales happening now (hi Shobop, hi J.Crew) so it’s a great time to invest in a pair that you really love and can wear all year round.

Last but not least, this jacket. This is probably one of the most frequently worn items in my closet throughout spring and fall (I even styled it for Thanksgiving here). I get a bunch of questions about what color this one is and it’s the Coffee Bean shade. It goes with everything and the quality is amazing. I’ve had it in my closet for years and don’t see it leaving anytime soon.
