Our Wedding Crest

Our wedding crest is complete and I’m so excited to finally share it with you guys. When I initially posted about our crest on Instagram Stories, I received a bunch of questions about crests, why we wanted one, what we’d use it for, our illustrator, the design process, etc. Being that so many of you were interested, I thought it made sense to answer all of those questions in a blog post… here we go!

WHY WE WANTED A WEDDING CREST

When I say “we” here I am just being polite. Truthfully, I had to sell Bill on this one… 😂 I’ve always been a fan of watercolor crests, so I knew when we eventually got married I wanted to make one part of our day.

Aside from being a design element that we can use throughout our wedding, I wanted a crest for sentimental reasons. I think it’s something that Bill and I will treasure as a keepsake for years to come. That being said, I do have LOTS of plans for this little crest which brings me to the next section…

WHAT WE ARE USING OUR WEDDING CREST FOR

We will be using our crest before, during and after our wedding day. Ultimately this crest will be a design element that we can use as somewhat of a theme. Our crest is made up of flowers that we will be using (very excited about the lily of the valley but I’ll talk more about that later) as well as the colors of the day.

We plan to use our crest on paper products like invitations and welcome bag inserts, table numbers, matchbooks cocktail napkins and more. Our crest was also a great addition to the homepage of our wedding website (pictured below)!

OUR ILLUSTRATOR

I searched Instagram high and low for someone to create our crest. I reached out to a bunch of illustrators, but ultimately I knew I hadn’t found the right person. After a couple of months, I randomly came across an illustration of lily of the valley. This is important to know because it’s a flower we are using heavily in our wedding and I knew I wanted it to be a part of our crest.

Low and behold the illustration I had seen was done by Whodrew, an NYC-based illustrator who creates lots of beautiful things, including custom crests! I reached out immediately and from there the design process began…

THE DESIGN PROCESS

Designing our wedding crest with Peggy of Whodrew was so much fun. We had an initial call where we talked colors, flowers, venues, etc. and from there she went to work. A couple of weeks after that initial call, I started to slightly change some design elements of our wedding. I sent Peggy and updated mood board and at the beginning of August I received our proofs.

Peggy absolutely nailed my vision and I loved the three options she sent me. Ultimately we ended up almost combining two of the options to come up with the finished product.

Overall, creating this crest was a great experience and Bill and I are so happy with the final result.

Did you have a wedding crest or are you currently looking to have one for your wedding? Have questions? I’d love to hear from you! 😊
