Attainable goals that is…
Instead of one giant New Year’s resolution that I won’t keep, I thought it would be a good idea to create a list of small(ish), actually achievable goals that I want to try and focus on in 2019.
So, over the last couple of weeks I’ve been writing down ideas as they’ve popped into my head, and recently narrowed it down to 19 (festive, right?) goals that I want to work towards throughout upcoming year.
I like the idea of sharing this list here on the blog because I think it will help me hold myself accountable (fingers crossed), but I’m also sharing it here because I hope it will inspire some of you to create your own list of goals for the new year!
19 Goals for 2019
- BLOG MORE — Number one for a reason! As things continue to change everyday with Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc., I’ve been thinking about it a lot and I need to focus more time on what I can actually control/own, which is my blog. I’m really passionate about this goal, so I am hoping I stick to it!
- 1 Second Everyday — I found out about this app through Carly’s Instagram stories, and I can’t wait to use it in 2019. You film one second a day for the entire year and it puts together a montage of them at the end. I think it’s a really awesome way to look back on a year of your life.
- Stop shopping so much — I’ve recently found myself shopping a lot. Althought I don’t think I could stop shopping completely, I need to cut back. I am the perfect example of someone who wants to go out and buy a new outfit every time they have an event, and with a closet full of clothes at my apartment it’s just not necessary. I’m hoping that by trying to shop less I will focus on finding quality pieces that I will have in my closet for years to come.
- Health — this is a broad goal, but it’s mainly just a reminder to myself that health is the best thing that you can invest in. This is reminder for me to make my doctor appointments on time, eat healthy, make smarter choices, get enough sleep, etc., etc. I try to live a (somewhat) healthy lifestyle, but I could DEFINITELY improve.
- Exercise 3x a week — similar to the goal above, this one is a bit broad but I kind of have a plan… Recently I’ve been loving obé. It’s a online streaming service that provides unlimited access to all types of fitness classes from dance, HIIT, strength training, etc. The best part — besides being very affordable, they offer a ton of 28 minute classes, so there really is no excuse to not get it done. This is what I plan to start doing 3x a week.
- Enjoy traveling more — I travel a decent amount for work, but I tend to complain about it a lot. As much as it can be tough to be away from family and friends, I really want to start embracing the travel more. I am extremely lucky to work for a company that has sent me around the world (literally), and I want to be more aware of that in 2019. I started working on this goal at the end of 2018 when Bill flew out to meet me in Australia after I was done working an event there, and I already have plans to take advantage of a business trip to China in 2019 by flying out to Hong Kong a few days early with colleagues to see the city before our event begins in Sanya!
- Spend more time with friends and family — somewhat related to the goal above, I really want to try and spend more time with family and friends when I am not traveling for work. Sometimes when I get back from long trips I am exhausted and often avoid making plans. When I do this I almost always regret it, so in 2019 I want to be sure that I am taking advantage of the time that I’m home, even if I’m tired!
- Run less “errands” — to me errands almost always mean buying something. Whether it’s going to the grocery store, the mall, Target, all of these places I go to run “errands” end up being a pretty big money pit. The kicker — I usually wind up leaving with a ton of stuff I don’t need. In 2019 I want to stop running these types of errands and use that time (and money) towards better, more productive things!
- MORE cooking — this year I feel like I’ve really stepped up my cooking game, and I want that to continue into 2019.
- Don’t buy another one until the first one is empty — I’ve been thinking about this a lot, and I have SO many products (mainly beauty/skincare) that I never finish. In 2019, I really want to try and finish the product before I buy another one or find a new one to try. Like I said, this is mainly related to beauty/skincare products, so I think I am going to document this on Instagram using the hashtag #emilylucilleempties. I’ll do a brief review on every product that I finish and let you guys know if I plan to re-buy or try something else. Stay tuned!
- Wake up earlier — I am the absolute worst at getting out of bed in the morning. I turn my alarms off in my sleep, I wait until the last minute to get up, and I’m over it. In 2019 I want to try to wake up even just a half an hour earlier so I can enjoy my mornings a little bit more.
- Bring lunch to work — I try to do this already, but I could definitely be better. I usually have so much healthy food at my apartment that there is literally no reason I should ever really be buying lunch. Don’t get me wrong, I love an occasional trip to Chopt, but I think I will try to limit going out for lunch to once a week.
- Learn how to give myself a good blowout — this has been a goal of mine for a while and I’ve already started working on it the last couple of weeks! I am a #lefty, and things like using a round brush and a blow dryer at the same just don’t come naturally to me. I’ve been watching a bunch of YouTube videos, and bought a couple of tools to help me, so I’m hoping I’ll master the blowout in 2019.
- Travel to another country with Bill — we had a big year last year with our trip to Australia, but in 2019 we both would really like to visit another country together. I’ll be traveling to Mexico City in the spring for a work trip, and we are thinking that might be the perfect place!
- More trips into New York City — one of the biggest perks about where Bill and I live in Connecticut is its proximity to NYC. With the majority of our friends living in the city there really is no excuse for us to not spend more time there. Sometimes I think we are lazy and don’t want to hop on a train, but at the end of the day there is so much to see there and so many great restaurants to try that I really want to try and prioritize this in 2019.
- Read more books — I can’t remember the last time I actually finished a book. It’s quite upsetting when I really think about it, so I am going to try and step up my game this year.
- Invest in new bedding/pillows — this might seem silly, but for some reason Bill and I keep pushing off buying new bedding. I think this goal will be accomplished in early 2019, but putting it on this list as a reminder to get it done because sleep is vvv important.
- Drink more water — I always make fun of Bill for updating his water app whenever he finishes a glass, but he is rarely ever dehydrated because of it. I am going to download the app he uses in 2019 and hopefully as a result will be come the best, most-hydrated version of myself.
- Continue to look for clean products — whether this is cleaning products, beauty products, etc., I really want to continue to focus on finding products that are both good for me and the environment. I do this already, but like I mentioned in a few of the previous goals, I can always do better.
That’s my list! Are any of my goals for 2019 also on your list? If so, let me know which ones!
